Athier spent a month in Beirut, Lebanon, through START Foundation: a Dubai based non profit organisation which collaborates with international artists and educators providing residencies to produce work with children in lesser privileged cities throughout the mid to far east. Athier worked in 5 to 10 refugee camps (Sabra, Shatilla, Debayah), orphanages and special needs centres each week in and around Beirut for 1 month. in these camps, the artist led workshops dependant on skill level on cubist composition still life work, tonal workshop, matisse inspired cut outs and large scale collective murals. These encouraged students to work as part of a team and to further their artistic skills in scale drawing and colour awareness. All photos are from various camps at various times.
